VAT in Pakistan

VAT in Pakistan

We already pay 33% taxes on every product in Pakistan. But Government not feel this dangerous condition of public. Now a new Frankenstein is about to suck whatever life is left in the veins of emaciated Pakistanis. On the other hand, the World Bank has linked its future funding and lending to Pakistan with VAT implementation.

After GST, now a new Frankenstein is about to suck whatever life is left in the veins of emaciated Pakistanis. Prime Minister and his cronies are saying that the Value Added Tax (VAT) is just a sweet GST, and wouldn’t have much effect. Yes, it wouldn’t have much effect
on the Pir of Multan, his boss and their acolytes
, who only know how to count in billions.

A newspaper report says that the THE IMF is so insistent on the imposition of a Value Added TAX (VAT) that it has relaxed the targets it had set for Pakistan to achieve in the next financial year, 2010-11, including the target for the budget deficit as a percentage of the GDP. It must not be assumed that the IMF has abandoned anything, just that it hopes to achieve the results it had intended from the original targets, from the imposition of the VAT. Those results include the economic subordination of Pakistan, so that it continues to be dependent on IMF handouts, and continues to toe the US line generally, but particularly in the War on Terror. This is particularly important after the USA has planned to withdraw from Afghanistan towards the end of the financial year. It has gone to the extent of interrupting the Doha talks on the Budget for a team to rush to Islamabad to seek a presidential assurance on the imposition of the VAT, though such a meeting has been denied by the presidential spokesman.

The report further states that the proposed VAT, which is being dismissed by government spokesmen as a mere renaming of the already existing sales tax, has been opposed by both economists as well as the business community. The government, however, has long made clear its commitment to levy it from the coming budget. Any doubts that this was anything but an IMF condition for continued balance of payment support should now disappear. This new tax aimed at the business community comes at the same time as the present government has silently abandoned its commitment to tax agriculture as well as speculative businesses like real estate and the stock exchanges.

It’s time that the masses rise against this draconian tax and show the public power.

How To Keep Our Town Clean

How To Keep Our Town Clean
Islam says much emphasis upon cleanliness. Being Muslims we believe that cleanliness is next to godliness. It is very necessary to keep our town clean. Cleanliness provides healthy and pleasant atmosphere.
We can take different steps to keep our town neat and clean. Awareness in public at all levels plays an important role to achieve the desires objectives. First of all, we should try to keep our houses clean and tidy. We should not through filth of our homes in the streets. Filthy environment causes the spread of disease like cholera, malaria, and typhoid. Heaps of garbage should be removed from the streets and roads. We should make proper arrangements to clean the drains of our streets. If we find heaps of filth and pools of stagnant water spreading all over the streets, we should report to the Municipality. Sweepers should sweep the streets regularly. Sanitary Inspector should not throw banana or melon peel, plastic and other pollutants on the roads. Now pollution problem has become very serious and complicated. Trees should be planted to face this problem. Students of schools and colleges should participate in these activities. An effective campaign should be started through print media and TV. to lay emphasis upon cleanliness.

ADULTERATION

ADULTERATION
The toll of human life that adulteration takes is only next to war. The damage done is not only immediate but far reaching. It has a very bad effect on human mechanism. Vitality in man is lowered. Paralysis has become very common because of adulteration. Widespread blindness in the people of Pakistan owes much to this bad practice. Out of certain disease and epidemics are also the after effect of adulteration. In a world, adulteration are like white ants who are eating away national health with out much apparent damage.
History shows that this moral evil existed even among the Greeks and the Roman thousands of years ago. It could not become the talk of the town only because of the want of statistical data on the subject. Moreover, the detection in those days depended to a great extent, on the delicacy of the individual. There were no chemical tests. Usually adulteration went undetected. Today it has become very common. The lure of profit has drawn unscrupulous souls to this field. These people employ different modes of adulteration to deceive the people. First, they mix a thing of interior quality with that of a superior quality. Milk is adulterated with milk powder or starch; butter is adulterated with grease or white oil; Edible oil is adulterated with mobile oil; Turmeric is adulterated with yellow earth. Secondly they substitute, in whole or in parts, one thing for another like saccharin, For sugar. Thirdly they abstract valuable constituents of a thing such as butter from milk. Fourthly they color the original article so that it may seen superior. Fifthly, they use certain chemicals to preserve food without knowing that they are injurious to health. Sixthly, they add decomposed articles to good ones; rotten eggs are sold with fresh eggs. Lastly, they misbrand or mislabel their articles: "Fond cream" and "Zarf" are sold for "Pond cream" and "Serf".
Check and Balance:-
An elaborate system of control is needed to check adulteration. An organized committee should be set up and provided with sufficient resources. It should investigate the dietary habits of the people and the pattern of food consumption. Reward for informants of successful cases should be announced. Detection test should be simple to avoid delays and technical assistance. Honest labeling giving character, origin, amount and constituent parts of the food should be introduced. The adulterators should be openly tried and awarded punishments. It is only that we can eradicate this evil from society.

INFLATION OR Rising Prices

INFLATION OR Rising Prices
Inflation is one of the major problems of the world. It is an economic term. It means any increase in the supply of money. Inflation occurs when the central bank expands the money supply or money in circulation. If there is no increase in the out put of of goods and services, expansion of the money supply raises the general level of prices. In other words inflation describes a fall in the purchasing power of money. So in ordinary speech, inflation is often taken to mean high prices.
There may be many causes of inflation. First, faulty economic policy of the Government is one of the major cause. Some time, to meet the deficit in budget the Government issues more currency. The supply of money in circulation money in budget the Government issues more currency. The supply of money in circulation increases. But the supply or services and goods remain the same. This results in price hike. Secondly, the inflow of foreign aid also enhances the rate of inflation. Thirdly, import of unnecessary things and spending of foreign on luxury also bring about inflation. Fourthly, high rate of increase in population is yet another cause. With the increase in population demand for service and goods like foods, clothing, housing, water supply, electricity, sanitation increase. If the supply remains the same, the price spiral goes up. Finally low production also gives birth to inflation. When agricultural or industrial production decreases, a shortage of goods and services is created. This again results in high prices.
Inflation, inflationary trends and rising prices can be checked by taking certain steps. First, the Government should frame reasonable and realistic policies. Unnecessary expenditure on non productive sector should be reduced. It should be careful in the issuing of currency. Secondly, every effort should be made to increase the production of goods and services. This step will keep the prices down. Thirdly, there should be restriction on the import of luxury goods like costly cars and cosmetic items. Fourthly, family planning programs should be popularized to control the increasing population. Finally, the Government should raise the rate of both direct and indirect taxes so that the individual consumer may have less money to spend.
Inflation or rising prices affects different people differently. On the level of production if prices are rising, business activity will be stimulated. Profit will be greater than anticipated. If it is desired to maintain a high level of production, gently rising prices are to be preferred to falling prices. On the income distribution level, the income of different groups of people are not equally affected. Some people derive their income from profits. When prices rise, profit are higher than before. The profit receives get a rise in their income. Some people are wage earners. In times of rising prices, their real wages fall. Fixed income group consists of Government employees and retired people. In a period of rising prices, all people on fixed income find that their incomes decline.

SPORTS AND GAMES

SPORTS AND GAMES
Sports and games play a significant role in the development of human personality. They are as important for human body as food grains and fresh water. They keep us active, healthy and smart.
Games and sports are called co-curricular activities. Pakistani students are very fond of sports and games. The facilities are, of course, inadequate at present. The situation is excepted to improve in near future.
Games and sports create in us the sense of discipline. The captain of the team works like a general. He leads his players in an efficient manner. The players learn to obey the captain. All these things create sportsman spirit in the minds and souls of the players. They learn to lead their life in a disciplined manner.
Games and sports are a very good and useful source of recreation. They utilize the the vacant time of the young generation. So their personality develops and they do not indulge in such activities like gambling and drinking.
Sports and games keep our body and soul healthy. A sound mind is always in a sound body. Health is wealth. If one loses his health, he will not be able to carry out his duties efficiently. As a result of it, he will be left behind in the race of development.

Muslims greet one another, saying "Assalam-u-Alakum", and they often add some remarks about each other's health and welfare.
Courtesy demands that we should speak gently to everyone. Our words may break a heart or heal it. Courtesy costs nothing but it pays a lot. It consoles the dejected souls. It brings us sincere friends.
Good manners demand that we should wait for our turn. In a crowded bus, we should offer our seat to the women, weak or disabled persons. We should help the blind to cross the road. We should respect humanity in order to make everyday life really comfortable and worth living. Courtesy amply fulfils this need.

Merits and Demerits:-
They make our life bright and colorful. But fashions are also harmful because people spend too much of their time and money in selecting jewellery, dress design, cosmetics and house decorations. Our students also try to be fashionable. They make our students showy and proud. Fashions are not as important as studies. An able student in out of fashion clothes is better than a useless one in fashionable clothes.
